topic

I took a long break and I feel as if I owe at least a topic to this club. What about TOY? I would also like to suggest a rule for this week. We must draw TOY in 10 minutes maximum. Quick drawing that shows the essence of the subject!

fever!

hello
i meant to draw + post a plant tonight AND post a new topic, but i'm heading to bed on account of a fever, so if anyone wants to throw a new topic in the mix, i'd be most extremely appreciative.
keep up the good drawing fight,

plant matter

hello team!

long time no see. good to be back.

i'm in the middle of designing a logo for someone, involving a 'sprout', so i've got plants on the brain + so this week's topic: PLANTS.

here's an old post i would have made if kanji hadnt taken over my blogspot: i was going for an overall pattern of logos i'd photo'd in one day's walk in kyoto (a camo pattern maybe?) but it never quite got as dense as i'd hoped.
ps i think the every-other-week topic is a good idea, considering the posting pattern we've fallen into. which isn't to say that that everyone isn't welcome to post anytime they want on any topic they want, because they are.

Breakfast

I ate my lunch before i could draw it! but it was pizza!

The trouble with Kanji

Hi everyone.  I'm Heidi, and I'll be filling in for Nor this week since she is having trouble reading the Japanese text that shows up when she tries to log on to this blog. For this week's topic, how about food.  We all have to eat it, so why not take a few seconds before you do and sketch it?

point reyes trip

Tule elk and Tomales point done on a six mile hike at Point Reyes. Up close the crazy eyes of the elk make them look freaked out all the time.

greetings from japan

hello from kobe!

i'm too jet lagged to think up a topic or scrounge through old emails for suggestions, so i think it will be another topic-less week, PLUS i think camo deserves more time on the radar.
above my first two japan drawings.

Birdwatcher's Camouflage

I was watching 'Attenborough in Paradise' last night, and that guy is irrepressible and fascinating to watch. In the scene above, he threw big leaves into a bird's 'arena' and waited behind palm leaves to see what would happen.

evidence

I nearly killed my fiance and since it was so dramatic, I wanted to post this drawing..... We were at the resort (in the middle of nowhere) with bunch of friends in Oregon enjoying the long weekend. Knowing that he is allergic to nuts, we were all cautious with what we cooked. But, no one knew that he would develop allergy reaction to SOBA (buckwheat) noodle on that weekend!!!! I cooked his favorite soba noodle for lunch, and 2 hours later..... benadryl... inserting Epi........ 911....... ambulance...... 6hours at ER..... Oh, man. What a weekend..... This is the drawing from the ER room..... The only evidence that I nearly killed him by feeding him his favorite noodle, soba......

Sorry that it has nothing to do with the weekly theme..... I will work on the Camo-theme.

camo

as inspired by the sumi ink club workshop (which i did not attend, but i sure did like that drawing on the machine projects site), this weeks theme: camouflage.

i'm leaving for a couple weeks+ in japan on saturday and have a question for the drawing team: what art tools should i pack? has anyone perfected the art of the travelling drawing kit? i think i've made my sketchbook decisions, and am trying to give myself daily assignments, to spur me on (i tried an assignment-driven sketchbook thing a couple years ago in nova scotia and it was a semi failure, but i think my expectations were excessive: 10 assigments a day! too much! this time i'm only giving myself three, on a sketchbook half the size).

thanks again team for your awesome awesomeness
